Lesson 2: Filr
In this Learning Module learners will be exploring the NEW Jackson County online tool FILR
Introduction:
Filr is the NEW Jackson County School System application that allows staff and students to bring their P Drive and school share drive home with them. I'm sure many of you have heard of the online application "Drop-Box". Filr is our school systems' in house application answer to that online application. Filr provides the user the ability to store documents, create folders and organize documents, and share folders and documents. But the most impressive function of Filr is what it allows teachers and students to accomplish in the blended learning concept.
Filr is one solution to the two main issues that teachers have as they work to "flip" or "blend" their classroom. The first issue many teachers are presented with is "How can I share my traditional classroom activities with my students?". Filr provides teachers with the ability to share documents individually or in a shared folder. The second issue that I hear teaches talking about with blended learning is "How can my students submit their electronic documents to me?" or "I had a student that left their jump drive at home with their document on it". Filr answers those issues too by providing access to students at home. Students upload their documents from home then log back in at school.
Another great factor with Filr is there's also an app for it. Teachers can access Filr on their smartphone or tablet. All teachers need to do is download the app enter their username, password and the server address.
Jackson County Filr Server Address: filr.jackson.k12.ga.us
And you have instance address to all your files.
